The Rio Hondo Watershed Area is located in mid Los Angeles County. The watershed area drains to the Rio Hondo, then into the Los Angeles River, and finally out to the Pacific Ocean. In addition to the Rio Hondo, the watershed area includes Alhambra Wash, Rubio Wash, Eaton Wash, Arcadia Wash and Santa Anita Wash. Municipalities that fall within the boundaries of this Watershed Area include: Pasadena, Arcadia, Montebello, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, Alhambra, Monrovia, San Gabriel, Temple City, South El Monte, San Marino, Sierra Madre, Duarte, Irwindale, Bradbury, South Pasadena, and Los Angeles County.

The Rio Hondo Watershed Area is estimated to receive up to $11.71 million annually to fund regional projects and programs.

Regional Program funds for the Watershed Area are programmed by the Watershed Area Steering Committee  comprised of local stakeholders from agencies, municipalities, and community members from within the Watershed Area. The Steering Committee will meet regularly to develop funding plans and recommendations to provide water quality, water supply, and community enhancement benefits to the region.
