The SCWP District Education Program empowers the people of Los Angeles County to take action to support the goals of the SCWP. The District will oversee programs including, but not limited to: public education and community engagement programs, local workforce job training, and school education and curriculum programs.

Public Education and Community Engagement Programs

The District is working on building the repertoire of educational resources through ongoing updates to the website https://newsite.lacounty.gov/, which in 2020 alone reached 125,000 people about key initiatives and projects improving stormwater management across the region. A refresh of the website to be both easier to navigate and a more educational resource for every person in Los Angeles County is anticipated in 2023. The Safe, Clean Water Program also amplifies communication through the Water for LA initiative, which is a trusted resource on all things water to support an LA County where residents understand and nurture their relationship with water. The District will continue to build out educational resources for the Safe, Clean Water Program and work with community partners to sustain that education, especially in disadvantaged communities.

Workforce Training Programs

The District will implement Workforce Training Program(s) which will provide certification classes and vocational training at the community level for the construction, inspection, operation and maintenance of stormwater management and multi-benefit projects. This program is under development in coordination with other County-wide entities and additional details about the program will be posted as they become available.

School Education and Curriculum Programs

The District will develop and implement School Education and Curriculum Program(s) about stormwater in the LA County region that will help students understand watershed functions as well as how they can personally work to address stormwater capture and cleanup on their homes and schools. The District has initiated a benchmarking and research scope of work to explore local and notable national curricular programs and opportunities related to stormwater management, as well as look into partnership potential with school administrators and the sites they manage. Details about the program will be posted as they become available.
